schauspielfrankfurt hat in seiner Programmatik die Internationalität fest verankert. Künstler aus den verschiedensten Ländern arbeiteten hier am Haus: Peter Greenaway, William Kentridge, Stéphane Braunschweig, Alvis Hermanis, André Wilms, Fura dels Baus, Henning Mankell, um nur einige zu nennen und Koproduktionen mit ausländischen Theatern, z.B. Taipei oder Strasbourg. Wichtig war uns, Frankfurt als internationale Stadt in der künstlerischen Arbeit mitzureflektieren und uns selbst mit anderen Kulturen, anderen ästhetischen Sprachen auseinanderzusetzen.
In Zeiten der grenzenlosen Weltwirtschaft sind Mobilität, Kommunikation und die Notwendigkeit, mit unterschiedlichsten Kulturen umzugehen, eine Grundvoraussetzung für Gemeinschaftsfähigkeit. Da kann die Kunst und vor allem das Theater Brücken schlagen.
In diesem Sinne war die Aufnahme des schauspielfrankfurt in die UTE (Union des théâtres de l’Europe) ein folgerichtiger Schritt, wenn eine Institution wie das schauspielfrankfurt sich im europäischen Raum positionieren will und die Begegnung und den Dialog zwischen den Kulturen als selbstverständlich ansieht. Jedes Jahr richtet eines der Mitglieder der UTE ein Festival aus, um die Produktionen der jeweiligen Häuser zu präsentieren. In Deutschland wird nun zum zweiten Mal das UTE- Festival stattfinden - vom 21.4 bis 7.5.2006 am schauspielfrankfurt.
Sieben hochkarätige Produktionen aus Portugal, England, Lettland, Italien, Ungarn und Spanien werden gezeigt. Ich bedanke mich bei unserem Team und der Technik des schauspielfrankfurt, die dieses Festival durch ihr Engagement und Mehrarbeit möglich gemacht haben und bei Brigitte Fürle, die als Kuratorin fungiert. Ohne die reichhaltige Unterstützung folgender Partner hätte dieses Festival nicht stattfinden können. Ein herzliches Dankeschön geht an die UTE und das Kulturdezernat der Stadt Frankfurt am Main, vertreten durch Dr. Hans-Bernhard Nordhoff, das Hessische Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst, das Goethe-Institut, British Council und das Italienische Kulturinstitut Frankfurt. Für die Stadt Frankfurt am Main und für die Region Rhein-Main ist das ein weiterer Schritt für eine Kooperation, die beispielgebend eine gemeinsame Zukunft von Kommunen und Land vorantreibt und diese an den internationalen Kontext anbindet. Die eingeladenen Produktionen sind eigenwillige, große, emotionale und berührende Zeugnisse dessen, was Theater in der heutigen Zeit rund um die Welt erzeugen und bewegen kann. Lassen Sie sich verführen in diese bunte Welt des Spiels zwischen Ernst und Heiterkeit, Schwermut und Leichtigkeit.

/ schauspielfrankfurt – an international meeting place

schauspielfrankfurt has accorded internationalism a firm place in its philosophy. Artists from a variety of countries work here: Peter Greenaway, William Kentridge, Stéphane Braunschweig, Alvis Hermanis, André Wilms, Fura dels Baus, Henning Mankell, to name but a few, and there have likewise been co-productions with foreign theaters, such as Taipei or Strasbourg. We felt it important to also reflect in our artistic endeavors on Frankfurt’s role as an international city and to address other cultures and other aesthetic languages. In an age of the border-less global economy, mobility, communication and the daily necessity of dealing with widely differing culture form one key basis for an ability to live in a community. Here, art and above all heater can build important bridges. In this sense, the inclusion of schauspielfrankfurt in UTE (Union des théâtres de l’Europe) was a logical step – especially since as an institution schauspielfrankfurt wishes to position itself in the European domain and considers encounters and dialogs between the cultures as a matter of course. Each year one of the members of UTE holds a festival in order to present productions from the UTE members theaters. The UTE Festival is taking place in Germany for the second time, from April 21 – May 7, 2006 at schauspielfrankfurt. I would like to thank our team and the technical department at schauspielfrankfurt, whose commitment and extra efforts have made this Festival possible, and to thank Brigitte Fürle, who has acted as curator. Without the wide-ranging support of the following partners this Festival would simply not have been possible. My cordial thanks go to the UTE and the City of Frankfurt’s Municipal Cultural Office, represented by Dr. Hans-Bernhard Nordhoff, the Hessen Ministry of Science and Art, the Goethe-Institut, the British Council and the Italian Cultural Institute in Frankfurt. For the City of Frankfurt/Main and for the Rhine-Main region the Festival marks another step in favor of a form of cooperation that in exemplary fashion promotes the joint future of local authorities and the state, and embeds them in the international context. The productions that have been invited to take part in the Festival are idiosyncratic, major, emotional and touching testimonies to what theater can today achieve and move the world over. So let yourself be tempted away into this colorful world as it moves between seriousness and joyfulness, between melancholia and light-heartedness.
